Study 2

Mentally healthy workplaces mitigate psychosocial hazards and promote workplace mental wellbeing. Helping employees and leaders to thrive requires intention and effort, yet it makes good business sense so people can thrive while doing their best work.

Study 2 of my research asks the following questions:

  • How do architects’ workplaces promote mental wellbeing?
  • What workplace characteristics and actions underpin this promotion of mental wellbeing?
  • What indoor environment characteristics underpin this promotion of mental wellbeing?
  • What basic principles underpin this promotion of mental wellbeing?

To address these questions, Study 2 involved interviewing 21 Australian architects, architecture graduates, and students working in architecture. The study had Deakin University ethics approval SEBE-2022-70.

Data collection for Study 2 is complete. I am now focused on the analysis phase: constructing a theory grounded in the data and identifying basic principles for promoting mental wellbeing in the context of architects and architecture.
